Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the global development network of the United Nations system and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Operating within the Bureau for Management Services (BMS), the Office of Human Resources (BMS/OHR) is the hub for the global HR function for UNDP, enabling the organization to attract, manage, and retain staff with relevant technical expertise, competencies and skills, by providing strategic HR advice, developing policies and creating an inclusive working environment where staff are engaged, continuously develop professionally and perform at their best.

BMS/OHR is focused on the implementation of an ambitious and forward-looking three-year strategy, People for 2030, which will progressively transform UNDP’s culture and enable its workforce capacity to deliver more and better results. Through People for 2030, OHR aims to be at the leading edge of HR in the international development sector by developing high quality and innovative human resources solutions and driving transformation across UNDP.

In this context, and under the overall guidance and supervision of the People for 2030 Coordinator, the intern will support the implementation of People for 2030’s engagement strategy which aims to promote the strategy and its initiatives both internally and externally; encourage the engagement of staff across the world; and inform staff on changes that have been made and what these changes mean for them.

This is a role for someone who primarily wishes to demonstrate their ability to implement a communication plan for a major transformational programme with one of the largest UN entities; UNDP.

Full or part-time for 3-6 months, the job requires creativity, enthusiasm to learn, and the ability to meet deadlines and maintain high-quality of output working under pressure.

Task Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and distribution of internal communications materials, such as reports, bulletins, emails, blog articles and announcements, with a focus on excellent text drafting and report writing.
  • Assist in analysis related to the progress of the People for 2030 strategy. Support the development of content for the team’s internal communication platforms, including the company intranet and collaboration tools.
  • Manage the People Champion Community online through the use of MS Teams, SharePoint and Viva Engage
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and gather relevant content, success stories, and updates.
  • Create and design engaging visuals for internal communications that resonate with different audiences.

Qualifications

Academic qualifications:

  • Preferred educational background in Communications and/ or Human Resources, Social Sciences or related areas,
  • Student enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent),
  • If a candidate has completed a university degree and is selected, the commencement of the internship should take place within one year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in communications or report writing in a private/ public sector setting,
  • Demonstrated experience of thinking outside of the box in communication campaigns
  • Realization of desired benefits due to a communication campaign
  • Experience in HR, Talent Management and/or Organizational Development is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English language, with a demonstrated ability in drafting text and completing reports,
  • Proficiency in creating visually appealing content using design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator,
  • Familiarity with communication tools and platforms,
  • Basic understanding of internal communication principles,
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks,
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Teams.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of French or Spanish is an asset.
